Hirst Lands Podium Finish At Placerville
4/17/17- Roth Motorsports and driver Kyle Hirst “hopped” into the Easter weekend with the anticipation of a full weekend of racing. After rained forced the cancellation of the 410 portion at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, CA, the Roth team made the 4 hour journey North to Placerville Speedway on Saturday night to compete with the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour (SCCT).
With a full field of 63 competitors, the Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation #83 machine started the night with an eighth place qualifying effort. The SCCT format would place Hirst on the outside, front row of Heat 3. This lined the #83 up beside pole sitter Shane Golobic. Hirst quickly took control to lead all 10 laps. By virtue of a pill draw, the Paradise, CA native would start on the outside front row of Dash #2. Hirst dominated by leading all 6 laps which earned him the second starting spot in the 40 Lap A-Main Event.
Lining up beside Dash #1 Event winner Rico Abreu, the two would bring the field to the green flag. The duo raced side-by-side for multiple laps with Hirst eventually gaining control off of turn 2 on Lap 5. Hirst led the next 12 laps before the caution flag flew for an incident involving Abreu and Golobic in turn 3. Lap 18 proved to be a pivotal moment in the event lining up beside Kyle Larson for the restart. Larson quickly took control on lap 20 and pulled away to a comfortable lead as Hirst battled for 2nd with Justin Cox. A lap 26 caution would stack the field up once again as Larson pulled away, leaving Hirst and Justin Sanders battling for 2nd. With minimal laps remaining, the #83 and #17 battled for the same line as fourth place Giovanni Scelzi quickly tracked them down. Scelzi’s #41 machine made an outside move on the final lap to take over second as the checkered flag waved. Hirst would hold onto 3rd, earning himself a podium finish.
The Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, HR Livestock Transportation, Roth Investments, 3H Cattle, FK Rod Ends, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance and Astro Titanium for their support in 2017.
